Lisa, an impressionable physics student, makes an analogy between her relationship and a lamp.
OHMS: The challenge
OHMS was my first short film. As my first project it was a labor of both love and hate. Love because I was starting my career by jumping in at the deep-end in a very spectacular way, and a sort of hate because with this project I had found out how much I still had to learn.
The production started in May 2008. I believe OHMS was the first short film to be shot in 4K resolution in the United Kingdom. The film was colour graded by Soho based company, Baselight and the sound was done by Gold Crest, again situated in Soho.
Without any experience and almost single-handedly managing to pull all this team together and finish the project, it is still something I am very proud of.
OHMS tells the story of Lisa, a young physics student, who makes an analogy between a lamp and her dysfunctional relationship. This makes her realize that the 'filament' between her and her boyfriend, as is the positive and negative poles of a lamp, has broken, therefore there is no more light.
It was my first screenplay to be produced. I learned a lot during the process of writing, shooting and editing the project. This screenplay taught me my first directorial lesson: The story is everything.
I am very interested in the aesthetical process of filmmaking especially framing, composition, colour and shape. The screenshots below provide an example of my experimentation with shape and form.
